Willliam C. Faucette, author of the elaborate scheme that enabled the small, largely rural town of North Little Rock (Pulaski County) to annex Argenta, which had been officially the Eighth Ward of Little Rock (Pulaski County), was elected as the first mayor of the new city. The city of North Little Rock swelled in population from 1,200 to 8,203 by virtue of the annexation.
