The Civil War remains one of the most thoroughly researched and but often misunderstood episodes in Arkansas history. This exhibit is intended to provide entrée not only to the best-known events and individuals of the conflict but to share information on some of the lesser-known aspects of the war.

The names given to Arkansas places—including natural features, counties, towns, and roads—reflect a variety of influences and often tell stories about the places themselves and the people who gave them the names.

Virginia might be for lovers, but there is literally a town called Romance here in Arkansas. There is lots of opportunity for love in this Land of Opportunity, lots of time to let nature take its course here in the Natural State.
