Ewell Ross McCright was assigned to training as a bombardier on the B-17. While a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft III in Sagan, Germany, in World War II, McCright secretly recorded detailed information about fellow prisoners. From McCright’s information, fourteen Purple Hearts were issued—many that had been denied for lack of proof of injuries.
