Lena Lowe Jordan was born in Georgia to Hollin and Martha Lowe. She spent her childhood there and began her nursing training at the Charity Hospital of Savannah. As an African-American registered nurse, Jordan later opened the Lena Jordan Hospital in Little Rock (Pulaski County), a hospital open to all black patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
