June 3, 1871

The first train ran over the Cairo and Fulton Railroad from Argenta (Pulaski County) to Jackson Springs, as it was then called. The town was called Jacksonville starting in 1872. Modern-day Jacksonville is located twelve miles northeast of Little Rock (Pulaski County) in the central part of the state. Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB) is located within the city limits of Jacksonville.
