Frank Glasgow Tinker, who graduated from DeWitt (Arkansas County) High School and from Annapolis as a naval officer, crashed with his pilot while serving as an observer for the navy with the West Coast Fleet. He attributed his prematurely gray hair to the crash. Six months later, Tinker was court-martialed and then stripped of his commission because of various confrontations. He later served as a mercenary pilot for the Republican forces in Spain where he became distinguished as the top American ace after downing eight Nationalist planes. He committed suicide in 1939.
