Rear Admiral Corydon McAlmont Wassell of Little Rock (Pulaski County), who was one of the first national heroes of World War II, died in Little Rock. Dr. Wassell was awarded the Navy Cross for his determined faithfulness to wounded men under his care in the Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia). He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
