Joey Lauren Adams, an actress, writer, and director, was born in North Little Rock (Pulaski County). She moved to California in 1987 at the age of nineteen and attended college in San Diego before moving to Hollywood. After becoming an actress, she was nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance at the MTV Movie Awards and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globe Awards. She won the Chicago Film Critics Most Promising Actress Award for her role in Chasing Amy. In 1999, she began writing Come Early Morning because she felt there were too few interesting roles for actresses. Her directing debut came in 2006 with the production of that film.
