Excerpts from a journal kept by F. J. Thibault detailing his experiences traveling to California in search of gold were published in the Arkansas State Gazette & Democrat. Several other articles by Thibault, as well as published letters from Alden M. Woodruff, son of Arkansas Gazette publisher William E. Woodruff, provide a record of the history of the many Arkansans who joined the westward movement.
