March 26, 1954

A tornado swept through the Benton County community of Twelve Corners and damaged a home and farm buildings near the Baptist church that had been one of the most stable centers of the community. The earliest settlers to the area, beginning in 1828, soon established a Benton County Baptist Society and a church building at Twelve Corners that has been dated as early as 1850. The church building burned more than once but was always rebuilt according to the original plan. Lightning damaged the church so badly in 1978 that it had to be replaced, but as of 2007, services are still being held regularly.
