Dermott (Chicot County) incorporated. It had grown from a bayou settlement, which had its beginning in the early 1840s, to a thriving railroad town in the 1880s. With an economy based largely on agriculture and timber, it flourished until the Depression. While many other small Delta towns did not survive that period, Dermott did. Although it never regained its former stature, it remains in the twenty-first century a substantial town populated by many descendants of early settlers.
