April 8, 1875

Hope (Hempstead County), the birthplace of President William Jefferson Clinton, was incorporated. Hope is located on Prairie De Roan in southwest Arkansas and divided by Union Pacific Railway tracks traveling from northeast to southwest. Hope received national attention when Clinton closed his nomination acceptance speech at the 1992 Democratic National Convention with the words, “I still believe in a place called Hope.”
