Lou Brock, a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, was born in El Dorado (Union County). A longtime player for the St. Louis Cardinals, he played a major role in changing the way baseball was played by using the stolen base as an important offensive weapon. He retired as Major League Baseball’s all-time stolen bases leader, a record that stood until 1991.
