Paul Dean was born in Lucas (Logan County) to sharecroppers. Dean was a baseball player who enjoyed his greatest success as a teammate with his brother, Jay Hanna “Dizzy” Dean, on the St. Louis Cardinals. Due to injuries, Paul Dean had only two truly successful years in the major leagues, though he attempted numerous comebacks.
