St. Bernard’s Hospital in Jonesboro (Craighead County) opened its doors. This hospital has continued to grow and remains one of the main ministries of the sisters of the Holy Angels Convent, a community of Olivetan Benedictine Sisters in Arkansas. Now known as St. Bernards Medical Center, the hospital employs more than 2,200 people in northeastern Arkansas.
