Edwin Bentley—one of the eight founders of Arkansas Industrial University’s Medical Department, now the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)—retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel to enter into the private practice of medicine in Little Rock (Pulaski County).
