William Rheem Lighton was born in Lycoming, Pennsylvania. The publication of his article “The Story of an Arkansas Farm” in the Saturday Evening Post and the article’s subsequent expansion into a book, Happy Hollow Farm, resulted in attracting more than 200 “back-to-the-land” settlers to Fayetteville (Washington County), where Lighton settled in 1908.
