Comedian Norris “Tuffy” Goff was born in Cove (Polk County). Goff, with his partner Chet Lauck, created Lum and Abner, a radio program based on the people of Pine Ridge (Montgomery County) that was one of the longest-running and most popular programs ever on radio. Later, Goff and Lauck successfully transferred their Lum and Abner characters to movies.
