Edd Jeffords, one of the most visible figures in the state counter-culture movement centered upon Eureka Springs (Carroll County) in the 1970s, was born in Rector (Clay County). He also helped to organize the Ozark Mountain Folk Fair of 1973 and created the Ozark Institute to advocate for the area’s dwindling population of small farmers.
