The USS Queen City was ambushed, disabled, and blown up by Confederate forces while patrolling the White River near Clarendon (Monroe County). During this engagement, the Union ships crew reportedly suffered casualties of at least six killed, nine wounded, and twenty-six captured. Nearby Union vessels rescued the ships remaining crew members.
