June 24, 1864

The USS Queen City was ambushed, disabled, and blown up by Confederate forces while patrolling the White River near Clarendon (Monroe County). During this engagement, the Union ship’s crew reportedly suffered casualties of at least six killed, nine wounded, and twenty-six captured. Nearby Union vessels rescued the ship’s remaining crew members.
