Chester William Tyler was murdered. Taylor had previously been a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the Sixth District of Arkansas from 1921 to 1923. Taylor had traveled to Pine Bluff to try to reconcile with his second wife, where he was met on the front porch by his father-in-law, former county judge Charles M. Philpot. After words were exchanged, Philpot shot Taylor in the head, killing him.
