Located along U.S. Highway 67 in Lawrence County, the small town of Minturn voted to receive incorporation. Originally established as a railroad depot in the 1870s, Minturn was a small community that prospered from the timber industry. Although not settled until after the Civil War, the town surged in population after its establishment, leading to the opening of a stave mill, timber works, and several stores. In the early twentieth century, the Arkansas State Highway System created a paved road that ran parallel to the tracks in Lawrence County; this road, which passes through Minturn, is now known as Old U.S. Highway 67 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
