March 12, 1891

The downtown buildings of the small unincorporated town of Maysville were destroyed in a fire. Maysville is the oldest settlement in Benton County and the westernmost community in Arkansas. First occupied by the Osage until their removal by treaty, Maysville had one of the first schools in Benton County. Although the Civil War brought destruction of property, and a lack of a railroad hindered population growth, by 1888, Maysville had several stores, a mill, a hotel, physicians, and other amenities. After the 1891 fire, the community had been rebuilt by 1915, with two general stores, a blacksmith, printing and stationery company, and more.
