Gene Hatfield was an artist and teacher who works in the media of watercolor, oil, acrylic, and sculpture. His best-known work was the transformation of the yard of his Conway (Faulkner County) home into an art environment using junk and recycled objects. In late 2002, Hatfields house and yard were subject to complaints and legal action by public officials. In the end, although not everyone appreciated his creative work, a legal ruling established its legitimacy as art.
