Gene Hatfield is an artist and teacher who works in the media of watercolor, oil, acrylic, and sculpture. His best-known work is the transformation of the yard of his Conway (Faulkner County) home into an art environment using junk and recycled objects. In late 2002, Hatfield’s house and yard were subject to complaints and legal action by public officials. In the end, although not everyone appreciated his creative work, a legal ruling established its legitimacy as art.
