In 1934, Dr. Jeremiah Guthrie, a co-founder of the Missionary Baptist Seminary, became the schools first president and teacher. He led the school for approximately eleven years until his unexpected death in 1945. Still in operation in 2008, the seminary is the oldest educational institution among the Missionary Baptists in Arkansas.
