The violin, or fiddle, was perhaps the most common musical instrument in pioneer Arkansas. In recognition of this, the Arkansas General Assembly passed Act 277 in 1985 designating the fiddle as the state’s official musical instrument. The close association to the state with the instrument can be seen in this early 1900s postcard, titled “Arkansas fiddler.”
