Elsijane Trimble Roy, shown here in 1938 as a student at the University of Arkansas (UA) in Fayetteville (Washington County), became Arkansas’s first woman judge, the first woman appointed to the Arkansas Supreme Court, the first woman appointed to an Arkansas federal judgeship, and the first woman federal judge in the Eighth Circuit.
