Before railroad passenger service was discontinued to many small Arkansas towns by the mid-1960s, the local depot was a major point of activity. Many towns were serviced by more than one train each day, drawing large crowds on a regular basis. The Dermott (Chicot County) depot, a spacious structure, is shown here in the 1950s, while passenger service was still an important means of transportation.
