In 2000, readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette voted Clyde Scott of Smackover (Union County) as the states athlete of the century. Scott was a star at football and track and field at the University of Arkansas (UA) in Fayetteville (Washington County). In 1948, he won the silver medal in the 110-meter high hurdles at the London Olympic Games. He is shown here in the 1940s during his college football days.
