A Confederate veteran and doctor, Augustus Louis Breysacher moved to Pine Bluff (Jefferson County) shortly after the Civil War and set up a medical practice known for expertise in women’s disorders. Relocating to Little Rock (Pulaski County) in the early 1870s, he was one of the eight founders of the Medical Department of Arkansas Industrial University, now the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
