Originally opened in 1867 as the Arkansas Deaf Mute Institute in Little Rock (Pulaski County), the school known today as the Arkansas School for the Deaf has become a national leader in the field of education for the deaf. The campus, shown here on Little Rock’s Markham Street, is home to a growing number of students who are provided with a curriculum centered on academics and life skills.
