The 1945 short feature film Caldonia, featuring Monroe County native musician Louis Jordan, is credited by many as the forerunner of today’s music videos. Four musical numbers from the eighteen-minute film appeared as individual “soundies” being shown on video jukeboxes in the 1940s. The movie poster is reprised here as a postage stamp included in the United States Postal Service’s Vintage Black Cinema series of 2008.
