The two Lawrence County towns of Walnut Ridge and Hoxie have been in competition since their incorporation in the late 1800s. In fact, only the railroad tracks separate the two communities, which simply run together. This 1890s photo of the Walnut Ridge and Hoxie Mule Car Line serves as an example of how closely the towns have been connected throughout their history.
