Thorncrown Chapel, which opened in 1980 near Eureka Springs (Carroll County), is one of the most celebrated pieces of Arkansas architecture. Commissioned by landowners Jim and Dell Reed, it was designed by architect E. Fay Jones as a wayside chapel for traveler relaxation and meditation. The building has won five design awards and was named by the American Institute of Architects as the fourth most significant building of the twentieth century.
