In 1982, Mother Teresa of Calcutta visited Little Rock (Pulaski County), appearing with Bishop Andrew Joseph McDonald at a rally attended by several thousand on June 2 at the capital city’s Ray Winder Field. McDonald had written to Mother Teresa in January to ask for sisters of her order, Missionaries of Charity, to take over the ministry of Abba House, a home for unwed mothers in Little Rock. Mother Teresa came to Little Rock to see the fledgling Abba House for herself, and she sent four sisters to run Abba House in July 1983.
