In 1900, the Benedictine sisters of the Holy Angels Convent opened a six-room hospital on Matthews Street in Jonesboro (Craighead County). From those humble beginnings, that hospital, now known as St. Bernards Medical Center, has grown into the modern medical facility shown here.
