Award-winning cartoonist John Sorensen was hospitalized in Little Rock (Pulaksi County) while traveling to New Mexico, where he hoped to recover from tuberculosis. He and his wife lived in Little Rock for about twenty years. While hospitalized, he began to develop his skills as a cartoonist, eventually publishing his work in magazines such as the New Yorker, the Saturday Evening Post, and Playboy. Sorensen also built a successful advertising agency that worked on several prominent political campaigns. He died in 1969.
