In 1915, the first president of the Polk County Possum Club, B. S. Petefish, organized the initial club banquet at the Hotel Mena in Mena (Polk County). The early success and interest resulted in its becoming an annual event. The banquet was discontinued at the outbreak of World War II but was briefly renewed in 1945. By 1947, the banquet ceased, only to be revived for approximately six years starting in 1995.
