In 1882, one of the world’s largest black-owned business enterprises, the Mosaic Templars of America (MTA), was founded in Little Rock (Pulaski County). One of the organization’s various business ventures was the selling of burial and life insurance to its members. This headstone located in Miller Cemetery in Pine Bluff (Jefferson County) is engraved with the Templars’ seal, bearing witness to this aspect of the organization.
