In 1973, Woodruff County physician John W. Morris was recognized by the Arkansas Medical Association and Ripley’s Believe It or Not as the oldest full-time practicing physician in the United States. He was approximately ninety-eight years old at the time. Morris estimated that, during his practice (from which he retired at age 101), he had delivered over 7,000 babies. He died in 1979.
