This photograph reportedly shows the isolated lone red oak tree from which the town and county of Lonoke received their names. Lonoke, incorporated in 1872, and Lonoke County, founded in 1873, are the only county and county seat in Arkansas with the same name. The oak tree is said to have been a landmark used for the surveying of the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad.
