Shelton Alsup
Thomas Shelton (Shel) Alsup, who, with his brothers from Douglas County, Missouri, continued fighting against Confederates in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas after the Civil War ended. He was killed in an ambush in 1884. His younger brother, William Wiley Alsup, became the first postmaster of Starnes Spring (Independence County) in 1914 and is buried in Starnes Spring Cemetery.
