Carpet Rock

Rock formations known as “carpet rock,” which are the result of fractures in sandstone having been filled with quartz. Quartz’s hardness makes it more resistant to weathering than sandstone, thus leaving interesting patterns in the stone as the sandstone erodes. These formations can be viewed on the Cedar Falls trail at Petit Jean State Park in Conway County.
