Engagement at St. Charles

After the Federal gunboat Mound City was disabled during the June 17, 1862, Engagement at St. Charles, Colonel Graham Fitch undertook a land assault on Confederate batteries with his Forty-sixth Indiana Infantry. The attack, which successfully turned the Confederate flank, is shown here in an engraving published in the Illustrated London News.
