Rock painting (enhanced on right) from 3CN17 at Petit Jean interpreted as a maize plant. If this indeed is the subject, current archeological thinking is that maize arrived as a cultivated plant in Arkansas sometime around AD 900, providing an approximate date for the painting’s creation.
