Poet and Little Rock (Pulaski County) native John Gould Fletcher drowned himself in a shallow pond near his home. Fletcher is widely acknowledged as one of the state’s most notable literary figures. He enjoyed an international reputation for much of his long career, earned a Pulitzer Prize in poetry, and participated in movements that shaped twentieth-century literature.
