Ernest Hemingway, the famed author, married Pauline Pfeiffer of Arkansas. Pfeiffer, whose family lived in Piggott (Clay County), was in Paris, France, on an assignment for Vogue magazine when she married Hemingway. Hemingway later lived with the Pfeiffer family for a brief period and wrote part of his novel A Farewell to Arms at their residence. Today, the Pfeiffer family home is preserved as the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum, managed by Arkansas State University.
