December 25, 1987

The town of West Memphis (Crittenden County) flooded from twelve inches of rain. The town had still not recovered from the tornado that had swept through the area on December 14, 1987, killing six people and causing approximately $35 million in damage. Seven to ten inches of snow fell on January 6, 1988. When the snow began to melt, this added to the already existing flood problems and the destruction caused by the tornado.
