Maud Robinson, later to become Maud Robinson Crawford—a lawyer whose mysterious disappearance from her home in Camden (Ouachita County) was never completely solved—was born in Greenville, Texas. Crawford started work as a stenographer in a law office and studied law without having attended law school. She graduated first in her class when she was allowed to take the bar exam at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville (Washington County). She was active in community affairs in Camden and served as president of every civic and social organization for which she was eligible. Her disappearance is believed to have been associated with her research into a fraudulent land deed case, but the case was never solved.
