Gideon Shryock, the architect responsible for the Old State House in Little Rock (Pulaski County), died. The structure is deemed to be the finest example of Greek Revival architecture in the state. Shryock was born in Lexington, Kentucky. Although he drew plans for the Old State House building and is believed to have been the architect for other buildings, including Curran Hall in Little Rock, he was never able to visit the city to see the completion of his work.
